Introduction

In 2010, Hikekorea will be prospecting for new hiking routes in South Korea, that will cater for the local domestic market. It will specialize in short 2 to 5 day courses that take the small custom group on beautiful boutique trails in Korea’s secluded mountains. The trails will be along open rocky ridges that are fringed with wicked stands of small native Korean pine, and outlandish formations of large rock. They will pass along Buddhist trails hundreds of years old that take you to stunning Buddhist temples and Hermitages, allowing the hiker to stop and refresh themselves. Each night Hikers will also be invited to stay over in the temples and participate in daily Buddhist life and meditation. The trails will also pass through historic sites of the Silla (668-932), Goryeo (918-1392), and Baekje (18BC-660) periods containing hundreds of cultural relics from those eras. You will also be able to experience many of the symbolism’s that exist in Korea’s mountains celebrating their oldest form or religion, San-shin, or mountain spirit (God).  The tours will be led by Roger Shepherd an Honorary Ambassador of Tourism to Korea,, Hiker, Photographer, and Writer,  who has spent many years exploring Korea’s mountains, sometimes walking for months on end along some of the famous ridges of Korea.

Supporting Roger will also be a team of local experts on Korean Buddhism, Shamanism, and Taoism. Korea is also host to a large array of flora, bird life, and insect life. There will be many opportunities to discover this hidden edge to Korean mountain landscape as well.

Accommodations

You will mainly be staying in temples and mountain lodges, with options to camp out. The hiker will be educated on Korean mountain culture and spirituality, allowing you to obtain a new level of awarness and appreciation for Korean Mountains.

Fitness

Hiking courses are done to suit the level of the participants. All ages accepted! They will range from very easy to very tough. Korean mountains do not meet the lofty heights of those found in the Himalaya, in fact they only range from 500m to 2000m above sea level, however, they are very tough to get up and once on top offer outstanding panoramic views of the landscape with their open ridges. The hiker will only be expected to carry a day pack with their personal belongings, all other wares for the trails will carried by the support team either on foot, or through a nearby support vehicle that will rendezvous with us at the end of each day. You will be given the opportunity to completely enjoy these walks and not struggle.

Trail Routes

A) 2 to 5 day routes nation wide.

B) Long Distance Hikes from 7 days to 2 months
