Songnisan Central Korea
Songnisan (renouncing the world mountain) was designated a National Park in March, 1970 and covers an area of 274.541km². Located in central South Korea, Songnisan is a stunning mountain scape with oddly shaped white peaks dotted with native red pine trees. It has a very oriental feel about it. Like a Taoist painting. The area is rich in Buddhist and shamanic history. Being part of the Baekdu-daegan, the surrounding areas are succulent with foods and good water. An intriguing and quieter part of Korea. Songnisan covers a large area and there is a lot we can do on a multi-day hiking tour of this region.

We had an unforgettable experience with Roger exploring the less discovered areas of the Songnisan National Park. The autumn scenery was stunning, and Roger did an amazing job in creating an itinerary that was just in line with what we wanted. Lots of solid hiking, impressive ridge views and authentic accommodation each night (including a non-commercial temple stay, which was beautiful). Roger is an expert on the Korean mountains and has so much experience to draw from his colourful life, which meant we felt in very safe hands throughout. He is warm, imaginative and kind – we loved our time with him and we’d absolutely love to return and explore more of Korea together.
