낙 The Nakdong river is South Korea’s longest at 510km. Its origins are where the Baekdu-daegan and Nakdong-jeongmaek ridges meet in the counties of Bonghwa and Taebaek. Its mouth is situated at the southeast coast city of Busan. The upper Nakdong is a beautiful stretch of water that pushes and weaves its way through boulders and cliffs between high peaked valleys. Through a series of different walkways it is possible to follow the flanks of the river in its upper more rural parts. The area is also steeped in Neo-confucian culture and history and allows the walker to visit some of Korea’s finest traditional confucian academies from the Yi Dynasty. Such as Dosan Seowon (f.1574) and the Nongam-jongtaek sites. These sites add to the natural beauty of the area. The walk itself is not that physical and covers about 15 to 17km per day with two 500m peaks to pass over. There is also an extra day option to explore the stunning Cheongryang-san Provincial Park which the river passes by. For this walk there is no need to carry sleeping gear or three days food, just day packs will do. We will be staying in riverside accommodations and eat there. Prices include food and accommodation. Please contact me for more information about this meandering walk through pastoral and culturally rich Korea.
